About “Before the Throne of God Above”
Irish hymn writer Charitie Lees Bancroft wrote the text in 1863 under the original title The Advocate, a meditation on Christ's finished work and his ongoing intercession for believers before the Father. In 1997, Sovereign Grace Music's Vikki Cook set the words to a new melody with some altered lines, and it is her setting that brought the hymn back into wide congregational use. This recording, featuring Kristyn Getty, was released in 2014 on Sovereign Grace's thirtieth anniversary album 30: Three Decades of Songs for the Church.
