Siblings Jonathan, Meghan and Ryan Baird wrote Behold Our God with Stephen Altrogge at a Sovereign Grace Music songwriting retreat in 2010, after Altrogge suggested building on the rhetorical questions of Isaiah 40:12-14 about God's immeasurable power and wisdom. An evaluation team at the retreat initially found an early draft too ordinary, but the finished song connected immediately with congregations. It first appeared on Sovereign Grace's 2011 album Risen and has since become one of the ministry's most widely sung songs, translated into more than 15 languages.
