About “Only a Holy God”
Only a Holy God was written by CityAlight's Jonny Robinson and Rich Thompson together with Michael Farren and American songwriter Dustin Smith, and released as the title track of the Sydney group's 2016 album. CityAlight is the songwriting ministry of St Paul's Anglican Church in Castle Hill, Sydney, which aims to write biblically rich lyrics set to melodies simple enough for small congregations to sing. The song walks through the dimensions of God's holiness and ends in invitation, and in an interview with Tim Challies the band recounted hearing of an underground church that sang it and drew courage from the reminder that God is set apart above all.
