Cory Asbury wrote Reckless Love with Caleb Culver and Ran Jackson, and Bethel Music released it in October 2017 as the title track of his 2018 album. Asbury has said the song grew out of the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15, a love that abandons the ninety-nine to go after the one, which he admits looks foolish to practical adults. He has also recounted waking at 3 a.m. with the chorus melody in his head and singing it into his phone in a bedroom closet, and has defended the title by explaining that God's love is unconcerned with the cost to Himself, not that God is careless.
