About “Good Good Father”
Pat Barrett and Tony Brown wrote the song out of Barrett's early years as a young father, wrestling with the distant or angry pictures of God they had encountered and wanting to declare his character as a tender, compassionate father instead. Housefires, the Atlanta worship collective that grew out of Grace Midtown Church, captured it live for their second album, Housefires II, released September 9, 2014. This raw congregational recording with Barrett on vocals is the original, made a year before Chris Tomlin's cover carried the song to mainstream fame.
