Two years after the Housefires original, Pat Barrett re-recorded Build My Life for his self-titled debut album, released in July 2018 after Chris Tomlin announced him as the first artist signed to his Bowyer & Bow imprint with Capitol Christian Music Group. This studio version was issued as the album's third single in December 2018, by which time the song was already a fixture in congregational worship, and it became Barrett's breakthrough radio hit. The song itself is a prayer of devotion built on Jesus' parable of the wise builder who sets his house on rock rather than sand.
