About “Lord, I Need You”

Maher wrote the song with Passion collaborators Christy Nockels, Daniel Carson, Jesse Reeves, and Kristian Stanfill as they prepared for the Passion 2011 conference, after Reeves suggested using Annie Hawks' 1872 hymn I Need Thee Every Hour as a springboard. Maher recorded his version for the 2013 album All the People Said Amen, and it became his biggest song. Drawing on C.S. Lewis's idea of need-love, Maher has said his hope is that people would not only go to God in their darkest need but be so struck by his love that they come to him in their joy as well.
