About “In Christ Alone”
Keith Getty and Stuart Townend met at a worship event in 2000 and wrote this hymn in 2001, the first they penned together, out of a shared frustration with the lack of theological depth in contemporary worship songs. Getty composed the melody, by one account scribbling it on the back of an unpaid electricity bill, and sent Townend a CD of tunes; this one played first and Townend built a lyric around it tracing the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. This recording is the title track of Keith and Kristyn Getty's 2006 debut album, and the song is widely credited with launching the modern hymn movement.
