About “Jesus Paid It All”
The hymn dates to 1865, when Elvina Hall reportedly jotted the words in her hymnal during a service at a Baltimore church, and organist John Grape supplied the tune. Around 140 years later, worship leader Alex Nifong added a new refrain of praise to the One who paid the debt, which he said rose spontaneously out of a time of prayer with the old hymn. Kristian Stanfill led this arrangement live at the Passion conference, and it was released on Passion's 2006 album Everything Glorious.
